Who it's for

A shift tracker for warehouse workers

Night shifts, four-on-four-off patterns, peak-season overtime and agency pay that can be hard to follow. Keep a record you can trust.

Shift work for warehouse workers

Warehouses, distribution centres and factories run around the clock. Many workers start through an agency, work nights or rotating shifts, and pick up extra hours at peak times. Pay can include shift premiums, overtime and attendance bonuses, which makes payslips hard to check.

How your pay works

  • Agency workers: after 12 weeks in the same role at the same site, you're entitled to the same basic pay and working conditions as people employed directly by that company.
  • Night and shift premiums depend on your contract. There's no legal night premium in the UK.
  • Time you're required to spend at work before or after your shift, such as security searches or mandatory briefings, can count as working time.
  • Night workers' normal hours shouldn't average more than 8 in every 24, and you're entitled to a free health assessment.
  • Overtime counts towards the 48-hour average working week unless you've opted out in writing.

What to keep a record of

  • Each shift with real clock-in and clock-out times
  • Night hours and premium hours
  • Overtime above your contracted hours
  • Agency or employer for each shift
  • Week number, so you know when your 12 weeks are up

Common questions

When do agency workers get the same pay as permanent staff?

After 12 continuous calendar weeks in the same role with the same hirer. From then on you're entitled to the same basic pay, overtime rates, holiday and working hours as comparable permanent staff.

Do I get paid more for night shifts?

Only if your contract says so. Many warehouses pay a night premium, but there's no legal requirement.

Should I be paid for security checks at the end of a shift?

Time you're required to spend at work, including required security searches, can count as working time for minimum wage purposes. Keep a record of your actual clock-out and leaving times.
