Which licence do you need?

Step 1: Get your first aid certificate
Before starting the security guarding qualification, you need an accepted first-aid certificate with at least 12 months left to run. Do this first, or you can’t start the course. K4training
Step 2: Book an SIA-approved course
Choose a provider that uses a recognised awarding body. Expect to pay roughly £200–£350 depending on location and date. You’ll sit written exams and practical assessments. SIA Training Hub UK
Step 3: Apply to the SIA
Once your training provider confirms your pass, you apply online through your SIA account. You must be at least 18 and pass the SIA’s identity and suitability checks. Have your ID and address evidence ready, because mistakes cost you time. K4training
What does the licence cost?
The licence fee rose to £204 on 1 April 2026, when the SIA ended its £20 rebate. It’s non-refundable in every circumstance, even if the SIA cancels your application because of incorrect information. Some older websites still quote £184, so always check the official SIA page. ProFM GroupK4training
How long does it take?
